This idea was one of many webcomic ideas I have had in the past, and it was the one that stuck. This lovely brainchild was born in Athens Greece over late May in 2009, unexpectedly. I have had the character of Aunoria floating around for a while, especially on the Jack webcomic forums, but I had never really done much with her, unfortunately. Her character was well fleshed out, and while she is widely considered to be my fursona, I'd say she has her own unique personality, and is simply a version of how I feel.
But then I had a world come into my head one day and I said "Ah. That's the place for her and her story." However, when creating the comic, I suddenly found other characters popping up and becoming alive too. The whole town inhabitance stretched out before me, and I knew this was something I should pursue.
There will be several characters who get their own chapters, and the comic will focus on the day to day happenings of a character over the course of a certain number of days. Some days may be short, one strip only, others will be long. We will see more about how that goes as time progresses.
It would be arrogant of me to pretend this is an original concept, and I do not claim it is. I give thanks to three lovely webcomics that inspired me to do what I am doing now. Vinci and Arty was the one that pushed me over the edge to actually get this started. I had never considered doing my work in lineart or black and white, and seeing her success at it, I felt hell why not give it a go myself. Jack also encouraged me to try out something dramatic and mystical, rather than the norm, and I have always looked up to Mr. Hopkins, I admit. Lastly, Better Days coming to an end so frustrated and saddened me that I had to do something, anything to keep reading furry comics, even make one! I miss it, though I do enjoy Original life as well. So thank you to Mr. Hopkins, Naylor, and Ms. Dewalt for being my inspiration to start something rather than waiting for something to happen.
The concept itself was inspired somewhat by Silent Hill(only the first 2 games), just concerning the town as a character thing. I also drew from one particular Without a Trace episode in Aunoria's character, and have used a few real life friends and personal experience for the rest. Thank you to all of them, BTW for letting me use your names and furry likenesses. I love you all.
And that's how SouthBrook came to be. Thank you, lastly, for reading. Without you, this wouldn't be possible.

(More will be added soon. )
SouthBrook is a small town, located to the south (No wai!) of a larger metropolis called NorthBend. NorthBend is the classic huge city. Lots of opportunities, jobs, busy bustle and constant commotion of any large city. SouthBrook by comparison is small, sleepy, and only very lightly populated. With less than 3,000 occupants, the town is the kind of area where everyone knows everyone, and everyone is in everyone else's business. At the same time, the residents tend to love their town and accept any who move there as an addition to a large and warm family. All furs are welcome here and it is almost utopian in how accepting of all ways of life it is.
The history of the town is barely known. Town hall records would indicate that the town was founded in 1889, and as present day is 2009, the town is therefor over 100 years old. The records would also indicate that it was founded by a Mr. P Sullifan, but no other record of that name would be found in any book or document anywhere in either Northbend or Southbrook. Virtually nothing is known of this man, except for the motto bestowed on the town before his death: "No one is ever truly lost." Since then, the words have been printed in shop windows, on magazine and newspaper headings, and even above doorways. It reflects the over all feeling of the place.
Some fur who live there, over time, begin to notice one thing about the town: It seems to be alive. In their dreams especially, they see places they should go, or feel deep urges to be doing something. Often the result of following these commands are painful and mentally tortuous, but other times it seems like they have been given a gift from God. The town's voice and guidance are felt in some small way in every resident's life, and many accept it, though none speak of it, for fear of seeming insane to others.
But how does the town do this? And why? Why does this place drive people, call them, hurt them, help them?
To what end?
Well, to find that out, I guess you'll just have to start reading. ;)
